Janie

Janie is an African American women who grows up in a period almost directly after the time of slavery. Her mother a lost drunk and her father on the run, she is raised by her grandmother whom is called Nanny in the backyard of the Washburns, a White family. Nanny raises Janie well as she and thinks of her as a second chance of motherhood. Janie is bullied in her early childhood because of her parents and the location of her home. Nanny hears of the teasing and moves herself and Janie to their own proper home. It is while in the front yard of this home, below a pear tree during spring that Janie is overcome with the sudden urge to be embraced by someone. Coincidentally  johnny taylor a ‘shiftless’ young man who attends her school comes down the lane and bestows upon Janie, a kiss. Nanny witnesses and wishes to see Janie married straight away, convinced that the kiss has officially made janie a women. Janie is soon married to Logan Killiks, a respectable African American man in the town. A few months later, Nanny dies. Almost a year passess and Janie is unhappy with her marriage. The honeymoon phase lasted for six months but she has not warmed up to Killiks, as she was promised by her nanny. She’s a hopeful teen and wants love in her marriage, and though Killiks has feelings for Janie, she cannot return them. Then Joe walks into the picture, Joe who manages to sweet talk her into leaving her hometown and following him to a barely started community promising to treat her right. The honeymoon phase ends after one day of their marriage. Now Joe is all business. He is elected mayor of the town and gives Janie a set of rules to follow. And she does unhappily, for twenty years, constantly hiding her discomfort, crushing her instinct to fight back and earn some freedom. Janie notices Joe’s body start to deteriorate at an alarming rate. And eventually she is told by a doctor that Janie hired, that Joe is going to die. And he does. Then Janie is free. She is left with a high position in town, more money than she needs, and the ownership of the main store which she continues to work at following Joes death. She can finally let her hair down, literally. Next, along comes a man informally known as Tea Cake. He’s a younger man who falls for Janie easily, and weeks later Janie begins to feel the same. Despite the warnings of Janie’s friend Phoebe, who warns that younger men are dangerous and that Tea Cake will only use her for her money.

Hemingway

Hemingway was the author of many books and short stories. Though he passed years ago his writings are still looked at as some of the best literature ever written. He wrote a lot about war as it was one of the many things in life he craved, yet also what he could not obtain until later in his life due to an eye defect. His writings each featured a unique storyline and most contained a hidden story that the reader had to guess and assume at. Reading his works could truly turn you into a detective. His writings also contained a lot of action and adventure, as Hemingway was a very adventurous man. Throughout his life he had three wives, and bore a son with each. It was as though he was not able to love one woman at a time, as his next wife would tend to be one he’d had an affair with. However he did love each of his wives despite his infidelity. He also loved each of the three boys his wives gave him. He would spend his time, when not writing, trying to teach his boys how to deep fish. Deep fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, along with watching bull fights.  All in all Hemingway was a good man, and an even better writer.

Six Word Stories

To be without, is not to be

Here and now, what are we?

In this world, can we count?

I'm here hanging by a thread.

I wonder where,exactly, you were.

There Goes the Neighborhood

How many times, in your life, have you met with your opposite? Maybe not an opposite in every way. It could be things like race, or religion. Do you click better with one race or ethnicity better than others? Generally speaking of course. What about religion wise? Do you stick with your religion? Hang around people with religions that are similar to yours? Or does it not matter because you don’t discuss religion anyway. But why not? Why not discuss it. It could better you to hear other views, it shouldn't cause a break in any relationships. What about your day to day life, the things you eat, the way you learn, what about all of that? When you’re in a group, do you create your own scenarios? Say, if you were in a room without doors and windows how would you escape. Or maybe you role-play? Here’s a history question you could pop in there next time a lull in the conversation hits. Consider Native Americans for a moment, how would you feel if a new people, who looked completely different from you and talked and acted in a different way decided to lay claim to your land? How would you consider them, act towards them?

All About Me

I can just about guarantee that whenever you see me, I’m doing one of five things. Smiling, laughing, singing, reading, or eating. Sometimes I get funny looks from people when I start laughing at my own thoughts. Then I laugh at their faces. I tend to sing when I’m bored or with my friends, whom all like the same general type of music I do. Which is most genres. I like to read fantasy mostly, or realistic fiction. I do not like the school lunch, but, I’m kind of broke. So, Lol. I’m an almost sixteen year old girl in high school. I’m not on any sports teams, and as of right now I don’t plan to be, I’m more of a club kind of person anyway. My favorite subject as of right now is English, but chemistry is a close second.

I like nature. Specifically plants and animals, but bugs disgust me. I don’t mind getting dirty, unless it’s my hair of course, and I love climbing trees, even though I’m slightly afraid of heights. Or rather falling. I like to bake, but I tend to experiment when I do, and not everything turns out right. I love wind, and windy and rainy days are my favorite kind. Unless I forgot my umbrella, that sucks. That pretty much sums me up, I mean besides the TON of homework I've had dumped on me. That’s something that I’m not used to, and I’m feeling the weight. Ill power through somehow, don’t worry.
